Dr. Elinor Garely
Journalist · Academic · Strategic Advisor
Dr. Elinor Garely is an internationally recognized journalist, academic, and strategic advisor. She is the founder and editor-in-chief of InMyPersonalOpinion.Life, where she analyzes the structural forces shaping international policy, tourism, and global economics. Her reporting translates complex geopolitical, regulatory, and market dynamics into strategic insight for C-suite leaders, investors, and policymakers, revealing how failures in one sector create material risk in another.
Her industry background includes senior roles with Playboy Clubs/Hotels, Copacabana Restaurants and Clubs, Helmsley Spear, and Babcock & Wilcox. She established the first hotel joint venture in Russia, developed hotel management programs across the United States, China, Malaysia, and the Caribbean, and conducted a Ford Foundation–funded study on higher education systems in China. This operational, academic, and journalistic blend gives her a rare systems-level view of how strategy, governance, and human behavior interact.
Academic Leadership
Dr. Garely holds a Doctorate in International Business and Marketing from the University of Sarasota, an MBA with Honors from New York University’s Stern School of Business, and a BS from Lesley College in Cambridge, MA. She also attended Howard University School of Law, George Washington University, and Harvard University, where she studied Fine Arts.
She has served as Professor and Coordinator of the Hotel, Travel, and Tourism Program at the City University of New York’s Borough of Manhattan Community College, and as adjunct faculty at Long Island University, NYU Stern, and the University of Shanghai. Her doctoral research on global hotel safety and security provided early comparative insight into cross-border risk exposure.
